Unica Adoption Services provides counseling, home-study and related services for independent (non-agency), stepparent and custodial-parent adoptions. Some counseling services may be required during specific adoption processes or before an adoption can be finalized.

- Attorneys and agencies referring individuals or families for services
Adoption Counseling Services
Counseling for Adoptees Age 10 and Older
Counseling for adoptees age 10 and older when required for adoption finalization.
- Includes a minimum of two counseling sessions and a court report.
- Fee: $250, due before the signed counseling narrative is released.
Stepparent and Custodial-Parent Adoption Counseling
Counseling for qualifying cases in which the adoptee has lived with the stepparent for at least one year but less than two years since the stepparent’s marriage to the custodial parent.
Adults required to participate in counseling are seen individually, without another person present, for a minimum of one session.
- Fee: $300, due before the signed counseling narrative is released.
Stepparent and Adoptee Counseling
Counseling for qualifying cases in which the adoptee is age 10 or older and has lived with the stepparent for at least one year but less than two years since the stepparent’s marriage to the custodial parent.
- Fee: $500, due before the signed counseling narrative is released.
Placement & Finalization
Counseling for birth parents participating in an independent, non-agency adoption.
- Includes a minimum of two counseling sessions.
- Fee: $350, due before the signed counseling narrative is released.
Independent Adoption Services
Unica provides application, training, home-study and post-placement services for families pursuing an independent, non-agency adoption.

Transfer of a Home Study and Related Documents
When a home study and associated documents are transferred between Unica and another agency, the fee is $100 per hour.
Services Outside Albuquerque
For services requiring staff travel outside Albuquerque, additional charges apply:
- Mileage: $0.76 per mile
- Staff travel time: $35 per hour
